The New improved N95 the Nokia N96

Nokia N96

When it first became available for the end user, the N95 cell phone was slow, would crash from time to time and the battery life was short. Nokia turned ordinary users in some kind of beta testers for a new better and more handsome model, which turned out to be the N96 cell phone. Rather than a whole new model, the Nokia N96 cell phone is a technical evolution and a design refinement of the Nokia N95.

Design-wise, the new Nokia cell phone is sleek and elegant with a smooth, shiny surface and a big screen that makes it look better than its predecessor. The N96 is bigger and heavier but it's understandable: they needed more place to shelter these technical goodies that seem to work perfectly now. The N96, not only better looking, but also responds faster, features 16 GB of internal memory and the overall experience of using it is much more pleasant than the one provided by the N95 cell phone.

The difference between the two N Series devices is the inclusion of DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld) in the N96 specifications. DVB-H is an evolution of DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) technology designed for cell phones and other handheld devices. This means you can now use your cell phone to watch live TV which is pretty good news if you travel a lot. There's more: the built-in video accelerators enable the N96 cell phone to support video bit rates of well above 1.5 Mbps. If you choose not to watch television channels you can watch your own videos or movies at DVD quality on the 2.8-inch screen.

Another cool feature of the latest N Series Nokia cell phone is the 5-mega pixel Carl Zeiss lens camera with geo tagging capabilities. When you take a picture the camera tags it via GPS with the location coordinates, which can be used later on, when you sort your pictures. There is also a second VGA videocall camera.

The N96 also features a microSDHC card slot which supports up to 8 GB of external memory, Symbian 9.3 as an OS, built in GPS receiver, MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA audio player, MP4/AVI/3GP video player, 3.5 mm audio output jack, TV out and a stereo FM radio with RDS.
