Life after Prada

LG Viewty

Launching the Prada cell phone, we thought LG had reached the peak of its creativity and technology. Seeing a camera phone is not surprising any more as all-important companies have launched such products, but seeing a 5-mega-pixel camera phone is indeed a surprise.

Seen from a certain angle, the new LG Viewty might be mistaken for a digital camera. But the black, sleek and elegant device hides many other surprises. The 3-inch 262K color touch screen monitor responds very well to touch, as opposed to the Prada cell phone which had a somewhat slower response. For big-fingered users, the phone comes with a pen that can be attached to the handset by a cord.

The 5-mega-pixel camera that supports up to ISO 800 is equipped with a flash and an auto focus assist lamp. Around the Schneider-Kreuznach lens there is a scroll wheel, which means that no extra buttons are required for zooming in or out and scrolling through the menu. The camera can also record videos at 120fps. The Viewty cell phone also packs a music and video player, an FM radio, internet and email capabilities, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and a document viewer.

Viewty

The LG Viewty has been released in Europe a few months ago but it has already become one of the most successful touch screen phones available until now, and it seems it will soon be released in the US too. The American version however will feature a camera lens cover to protect the lens against scratches. Moreover, there will be no 3G connectivity, as the phone will come at T-Mobile, the forth-larger American carrier and the only one that doesn't have a 3G network yet. The same version will probably also go to China and other countries that do not have 3G networks.
